Less-than-Container-Load (LCL) is a type of service in maritime logistics, which consists in delivering small consignments of goods by consolidating them with the cargo of other shippers in one container. It doesn’t matter if it is 1 box or 15 pallets, the goods can be shipped with goods from other shippers to their consignees.
Delivery of this type of service has several advantages compared with the shipment of a standard container and is in great demand among customers of the goods. As the result of development of the market and the increase in the number of online stores, this service becomes even more relevant and accessible.
LCL service allows the customer to buy goods at the most optimal price, and in the quantity corresponding to the needs. Now, buyers do not need to order and wait for the production of large shipments and, accordingly, pay for all goods in a container. It is enough to order only the part of the products they need for sales in the near future.
LCL delivery can be planned and arranged from different points of the world. It does not matter – the goods are in the port, at the Shipper’s factory or at any other warehouse. Market operators, using a network of agents, have the opportunity to arrange the delivery of cargo from almost anywhere in the world. Of course, since the global economy and factories are concentrated mainly in Asia, the biggest number of orders comes from this region and the volume of these orders are growing every year.
The largest LCL cargo handling ports are located in Southeast Asia, with Hong Kong, Shanghai, Ningbo, Qingdao, Shenzhen and Singapore being the leaders. However, other ports are also in demand. Currently, about 70 ports are active only in Asia, offering regular shipments to various countries of the world, including Ukraine to the port of Odessa.
It is easy to order LCL delivery!
To order the LCL service, the customer does not need to search for a consolidation, go to the country of manufacturer. It is enough to order a specific batch of goods from the shipper, send the sender’s contacts to the operator, the order number or a copy of the invoice to the operator. The operator of the LCL service further controls the process himself, since he himself communicates with the shipper and informs the buyer on all the details.
If the order comes from the sender’s warehouse, the LCL operator, together with the LCL agent, determines the nearest port in the country of departure, and also provides the buyer of the cargo with agent contacts in that port for better communication. LCL operator independently arranges the collection of cargo in the consolidation. In the warehouse, the agent checks the parameters of the cargo, its integrity, as well as reports on the nearest vessel route to the port of Odessa. As a rule, this whole process does not take more than 2 days. When ready, the shipment is shipped by the nearest weekly service.
Each customer gets access to the monitoring of the goods and receives alerts about its movement. Delivery of the container from the port takes place by sea lines that offer the most optimal delivery option. Accordingly, customer do not spend additional time, but use the same sea service, even when sending a whole container.
How to get the goods?
All LCL cargo arriving at the seaport of Odessa disbanded in customs warehouses. The operator of the service aranges the disbandment and delivery of cargo, therefore the customer agrees with the LCL operator to collect the cargo or arrange delivery of the goods to its warehouse.
